Pine Bark Extract, particularly the branded form Pycnogenol, is derived from the bark of the French maritime pine (Pinus pinaster). It is rich in procyanidins — powerful antioxidants that support blood vessel health, circulation, and reduce oxidative stress. Pine bark extract has been extensively researched for its effects on cardiovascular health, inflammation, and skin health.
Pycnogenol is one of the most studied forms of pine bark extract, with over 160 clinical trials supporting its benefits. It is commonly used to support healthy blood flow, reduce inflammation, and promote skin health from within. The extract is standardized to contain 65–75% procyanidins for consistent potency.
Blood Flow & Circulation
Supports healthy blood vessel function and improves microcirculation. Popular for leg circulation and overall cardiovascular health.
Antioxidant Protection
Extremely high in procyanidins — powerful antioxidants that may help neutralize free radicals and reduce oxidative stress.
Skin Health
May support skin elasticity, hydration, and protection from UV damage. Popular in beauty and anti-aging protocols.
Generally Well Tolerated
Pine bark extract is very safe at recommended doses. Most people tolerate it well with minimal side effects.
- Look for Pycnogenol or standardized extracts
- Stack with Resveratrol or Quercetin for enhanced effects
- Effects on circulation are usually noticed within 2–4 weeks
- Can be taken long-term for ongoing antioxidant support
Pine bark extract (Pycnogenol) has been extensively studied with over 160 clinical trials. A 2012 randomized, placebo-controlled crossover trial in patients with stable coronary artery disease found that Pycnogenol significantly improved endothelial function and reduced markers of oxidative stress. It is considered one of the most researched natural supplements for circulation and antioxidant support.
