L-Tyrosine is a non-essential amino acid that serves as a precursor to important neurotransmitters including dopamine, norepinephrine, and epinephrine. It is also used by the body to produce thyroid hormones. Tyrosine is particularly valued for its potential to support cognitive performance and stress resilience during demanding situations.
Under conditions of stress or fatigue, the body's demand for tyrosine may increase. Supplementing with L-Tyrosine may help maintain optimal levels of these critical neurotransmitters, supporting focus, mood, and mental performance when they are most needed.
Focus & Cognitive Performance
May support mental performance, focus, and cognitive function during stressful or demanding situations.
Stress Resilience
Helps the body maintain neurotransmitter levels under stress. Popular among high-performers and those in demanding roles.
Thyroid Support
Important building block for thyroid hormone production. May support healthy thyroid function when combined with other nutrients.
Generally Well Tolerated
Tyrosine is very safe at recommended doses. Most people tolerate it well with minimal side effects.
- Take before high-stress or demanding cognitive tasks
- Stack with L-Theanine for balanced focus
- Can be combined with B Vitamins for enhanced effects
- Effects on focus are usually noticed within 30–60 minutes
Tyrosine has been studied for its effects on cognitive performance under stress. A 2015 review concluded that tyrosine supplementation effectively enhances cognitive performance in short-term stressful or cognitively demanding situations, such as sleep deprivation, by replenishing depleted dopamine and norepinephrine. It is considered a safe and effective option for supporting mental performance.
